Oberweiser and Purintun named Third Team All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced the 2019 Division II Men's Basketball All-America teams on Thursday.

Kevin Oberweiser (SR/Drummond, MT) and Jon Purintun (SR/Linton, ND) from the University of Jamestown were both selected to the third team.

Oberweiser, a first-team Great Plains Athletic Conference selection, led UJ with 19.3 points per game and was second on the team with 5.5 rebounds per contest. The sharpshooter from Drummond, Mont., knocked down 127 three-pointers in 2018-19, setting a new UJ single season record. Oberweiser's 675 points are the second most in a season by a Jimmie player, and despite playing just two years in a Jimmie uniform, finished 23rd on the UJ all-time scoring list with 1136 points.

Purintun, also a first-team GPAC selection, averaged 19 points per game and shot 50.3 percent from the field. The Linton, N.D., native scored 45 points against Valley City State (N.D.) on December 15 to set a new Jimmie single-game record. With 15 games scoring 20 or more, Purintun finished with 665 points this season, the third-most by a Jimmie player, and is ninth on Jamestown's all-time scoring list with 1521 points.
