Jimmies host Trojans in NSAA Championship

TUESDAY: The University of Jamestown Jimmies host the Dakota State University Trojans in the NSAA Championship Game. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm from the Jamestown Civic Center. Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of the Jimmies, will have the broadcast on will have the broadcast on KQDJ 97.1 FM/1400 AM (http://www.newsdakota.com/kqdj-1400am). LAST TIME OUT: The Jimmies advanced to the NSAA championship game with a 94-65 victory over Valley City State on February 25. Brequan Tucker led five UJ players in double figures with 17 points, followed by Jake Hagler (16), Jacob Havron (15), Vlad Stoicoviciu (11), and Matt Wingo (11). The Jimmies held the Vikings to just 5 first-half rebounds and enjoyed a 42-24 rebounding advantage. Jamestown shot a blistering 64.7% from the field, while Valley City connected on just 37.1% of their shots. Tucker pulled down a game-high 7 rebounds and Taylor Newton dished out a game-high 7 assists. Havron tied a school record for highest field goal percentage in a game (minimum 5 attempts) by shooting a perfect 7-7 from the floor.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: Jamestown ranks among the top 50 teams in several NAIA Division II categories. Through games of Monday, March 2, the Jimmies were 3rd in free throw percentage (.767), 6th in total rebound margin (7.714), 10th in total rebound defense (30.643), 15th in scoring margin (10.286), 16h in scoring offense per game (82.964), 18th in defensive rebounds per game (27.500), 24th in assists per game (15.929), 24th in field goal percentage (.476), 26th in total rebounds per game (38.357), 27th in 3-point FG percentage (.378), 42nd in total assists (446), 42nd in 3-point FG made per game (7.857), 45th in field goal percentage defense (.435), 47th in assist/turnover ratio (1.090), and 48th in total scoring offense (2323). Individually, Jake Hagler ranks 1st in free throw percentage (.917), Brequan Tucker is 11th in points per game (21.714), 15th in total scoring (608), 39th in free throw percentage (.818), and 47th in 3-point field goal percentage (.419)

LAST MEETING: The Jimmies swept the regular-season series from the Trojans with a 92-70 victory in Jamestown on February 18. Brequan Tucker scored 26 points, and Jake Hagler (16), Jacob Havron (15), and Taylor Newton (11) all hit for double figures. KeWan Davis added 7 rebounds, and Newton and Vlad Stoicoviciu each recorded 4 assists to help the Jimmies to victory.

MILESTONE WATCH: Brequan Tucker needs just 12 points to move into the top 20 on the University of Jamestown all-time scoring list. His 2014-15 point total of 608 is the 4th most in a season. Jake Holen (687, 2007-08), Beau Hensel (637, 2001-02), and Mike Roeser (617, 1983-84) sit ahead of Tucker on the single-season record list. Taylor Newton is 42nd all-time on the career scoring list with 832 points. Jake Hagler surpassed 400 career points against Valley City State. Other Jimmies who reached milestones last week include Jacob Havron, who reached 300 career points, and Cedric Smith, who passed 250 career points. Matt Wingo is just 1 away from 250 in his career, and Logan Brown just 4 away from 200 career points. Teamwise, the Jimmies' 76.7 free throw percentage would beat the school record of 74.8% set in 2002-03.
