MITCHELL, S.D.—The 16th-ranked University of Jamestown women's volleyball team held off a comeback by Dakota Wesleyan University, defeating the Tigers in five sets Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23, the Jimmies lost 24-26 and 19-25 before taking the fifth set by a score of 15-12.
- Jamestown had 33 combined kills in sets one and two and hit .250 and .265 respectively to take a 2-0 match lead.
- UJ equaled its second set total of 17 kills again in the third, but 11 attack errors dropped the Jimmies' hitting percentage to .105 for the set.
- DWU posted its highest kill total of the match in set four, racking up 14 in 30 attempts while outhitting Jamestown .400 to .182.
- The Tigers opened the fifth set on a 5-2 run and would lead 7-4 before UJ won the next 7 points, beginning with a kill by Grace Hegerle, to make it 11-7.
- DWU cut the lead to 11-10 with a three-point run only to have the Jimmies answer with three straight of their own.
- Lexi Olson only had one kill in the fifth set, but it stopped a back-to-back streak of Tiger points and secured the win for Jamestown.
