McIntyre's game-winner sends Jimmies to MCH semifinals

ALBERT LEA, Minn. – The seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over No. 18 Midland University on Friday afternoon at Albert Lea City Arena. The Jimmies improved their overall season record to 21-10-0-0 with the win.

Jamestown broke the scoreless tie late in the opening period. Defenseman Malachi Franklin netted his first goal of the season at the 19:01 mark to give the Jimmies a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission. Wyatt Johnson and Jordan Baranesky provided the assists on the play.

Midland responded in the second period when Lasse Richert found the back of the net unassisted at 8:43, tying the game at 1-1. However, the deadlock was short-lived.

Just over a minute and a half later, at 10:13, Matthew McIntyre delivered what would hold up as the game-winning goal. Carter Johnson and Tyler Lindal were credited with the assists on McIntyre's ninth tally of the campaign.

Goaltender Brandon Weare anchored the Jimmie defense, keeping Midland off the scoreboard for the entire third period to seal the victory. Weare stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced in a full 60 minutes of action.

Jamestown controlled the offensive pace, outshooting Midland 31-21 overall. The Jimmies also played a disciplined game, committing just one two-minute penalty, which their penalty kill unit successfully navigated. Midland netminder Liam Tereposky took the loss despite making 29 saves.

The Jimmies face No. 11 University of Mary in the MCH semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
