ALBERT LEA, Minn. – The No. 7 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team finished off a dominant weekend against Waldorf University, securing a 6-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Albert Lea City Arena. The win completed a weekend sweep for the Jimmies, who defeated the Warriors 8-1 the previous night.

Jamestown opened the scoring early in the first period.
Matthew McIntyre found the back of the net on the power play at 4:53, assisted by
James Hooton. Minutes later,
Carson Brown netted the eventual game-winner at 8:07, with assists going to
Wyatt Johnson and
Jordan Baranesky, giving the Jimmies a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
The Jimmies extended their lead in the second period.
Carter Johnson scored just 1:26 into the frame, assisted by Hooton and McIntyre.
Brad Fortin added his first goal of the night at 16:44, set up by
Ray Warrack and
Alek Erichuk. Waldorf broke the shutout bid late in the second on a power-play goal by Cale Anderson at 19:41.
In the third period, UJ added two insurance markers. Fortin scored his second goal of the game at 14:30, assisted by Warrack and Brown.
Darius Makse rounded out the scoring at 16:13 with a goal assisted by
Marcus Fritel.
Goaltender
Jordan Lott earned the win for Jamestown, stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced. Lott was solid throughout, anchoring a penalty kill unit that successfully killed six of seven Waldorf power plays.
On the other end, Waldorf goaltender Andrew Tworkowski faced a barrage of shots, making 57 saves on 63 attempts.
Friday evening, the Jimmies overcame an early deficit on the way to an 8-1 win at Albert Lea City Arena, sparked by a pair of first-period goals from
Jacob Thomas and a shorthanded surge in the second.
The Warriors opened the scoring at the 5:03 mark of the first period when Dominic Toews found the net, assisted by Zak Molstad. However, Jamestown responded just under ten minutes later.
Jacob Thomas tied the game at 14:12, finishing a play set up by
Jordan Baranesky and
Wyatt Johnson.
Thomas struck again less than three minutes later at 16:52 with assists from
Trey Stephenson and Baranesky to give Jamestown a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The second period belonged to Jamestown's special teams, specifically the penalty kill. Makse scored a shorthanded insurance goal at 10:34, assisted by
Brad Fortin. Just 38 seconds later, while still on the penalty kill, Fortin scored an unassisted shorthanded goal to push the lead to 4-1.
Tanner McCracken added an even-strength goal at 12:28, assisted by
Matthew McIntyre and
Carter Johnson, sending the Jimmies to the locker room with a commanding 5-1 advantage.
Jamestown continued to pour on the offense in the third period.
Kaelan Shelton made it 6-1 at 4:04, with Fortin and
Wyatt Johnson picking up the assists. The power play unit then got to work, with Baranesky scoring an unassisted goal at 10:09 and
Carter Johnson capping the scoring at 17:26 off a feed from Stephenson.
Goaltender
Brandon Weare was solid in net for the Jimmies, stopping 23 of 24 shots to earn the win. Jamestown dominated the shot chart, outshooting the Warriors 51-24 for the game.
The Jimmies host Waldorf in a weekend series beginning Friday, February 6 at 7 p.m.
