ALBERT LEA, Minn. – In a defensive battle at Albert Lea City Arena, the seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team fell 1-0 to No. 11 University of Mary on Saturday night in the semifinals of the MCH postseason tournament. Despite a strong goaltending performance and late pressure, the Jimmies were unable to find the equalizer, dropping their season record to 22-10-0-0.
The game's lone goal came midway through the first period. UMary's Joe Gronholz found the back of the net at the 8:12 mark, assisted by Alex Senf and Levi Flatley. That single tally would prove to be the difference maker in a contest dominated by defensive play and goaltending.
UJ goaltender
Brandon Weare stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced, while keeping Jamestown within striking distance all night. The Jimmie defense shut down the Marauders for the final 51 minutes of play. UMary netminder Caleb Cross earned the shutout, turning aside all 23 shots sent his way.
Both teams had opportunities on the power play but could not convert. Jamestown went 0-for-4 with the man advantage, while their penalty kill unit successfully neutralized all four of UMary's power play chances. The physical contest saw a total of 16 penalty minutes handed out, with each team serving eight minutes on four infractions.
The Jimmies will prepare for the 2026 ACHA Division 1 National Championship, which gets underway on March 12 in St. Louis, Mo.
