JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's hockey team turned in a stifling defensive performance on Friday night, defeating the University of Mary 2-0 at Wilson Arena.
Goaltender
Brandon Weare was perfect between the pipes, stopping all 26 shots he faced to earn the shutout victory for the Jimmies. Jamestown dominated the offensive zone, firing 45 shots on goal compared to just 26 for the Marauders.
After a scoreless opening 13 minutes, the Jimmies took advantage of a power play opportunity.
Carson Brown netted his 13th goal of the season at the 14:15 mark of the first period to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead. The eventual game-winning goal was assisted by
Carter Johnson and
Trey Stephenson.
UJ doubled its advantage midway through the second period.
Jordan Baranesky scored his fifth goal of the year at 15:04, providing a crucial insurance goal.
Griffin Bourassa and
Kaelan Shelton were credited with the assists on the play.
Jamestown held the Marauders scoreless through all three frames, killing off all three penalties they faced. Conversely, UJ's power play went 1-for-5 on the night.
University of Mary goaltender Caleb Cross made 43 saves on 45 shots in the losing effort. The physical contest saw the Marauders assessed 10 minutes in penalties on five infractions, while the Jimmies served six minutes on three infractions.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening to close out the weekend series. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Schwan Cadillac Rink at Starion Sports Complex in Mandan.
