Jimmies open with 6-1 win over Colorado

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's hockey team opened its 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, defeating the University of Colorado 6-1 on Thursday night at Wilson Arena. The Jimmies controlled the game from start to finish, peppering the Buffaloes' net with 64 shots.

The Jimmies' offense was firing on all cylinders, with five different players finding the back of the net. Marcus Fritel led the charge with two goals and an assist, while Carter Johnson chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Jamestown set the tone early, with Fritel scoring the opening goal just 8:37 into the first period on a power play. UJ took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission along with a 26-5 shot advantage.

Tyler Lindal scored what would be the game-winner at the 6:03 mark of the second period, giving the Jimmies a 2-0 lead going into the final 20 minutes.

Douglas Wood got the Buffaloes on the board with a shorthanded goal at the 3:40 mark of the third, but James Hooten's goal at 11:15 was the first of four by the Jimmies in a span of 3:33, putting the game out of reach.

Jamestown dominated the shot count, outshooting Colorado 64-14, including 21-2 in the final period.

Jimmie goaltender Brandon Weare was solid in net, making 13 saves to earn the win.

In addition to their two power-play goals, the Jimmies' penalty kill unit was perfect, shutting down both of Colorado's power play chances.

The Jimmies will look to continue their winning ways as they host Midland University Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. at John L. Wilson Arena.
