Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The University of Jamestown softball team opened GPAC play with a split on Saturday against Briar Cliff University. The Jimmies won 6-0 in the opener and lost 1-0 in the second game.

Jamestown (14-10, 1-1 GPAC) will play a non-conference doubleheader at Bellevue (Neb.) University Sunday beginning at 12 p.m

Santina Zito (JR/Boise, Idaho) went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs and Kat Miska (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) pitched a four-hit shutout as the Jimmies took game one.

Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB) drove in Zito for UJ's first run in the top of the third. Jamestown added three more runs in the fifth on a single by Zito and a two-run home run by Gracie Fisher (SO/Bemidji, Minn.).

Katie Reisdorfer (SR/Fresno, Calif.) led off the sixth with a solo home run to make it 5-0, then Zito scored on a wild pitch in the seventh for Jamestown's final run.

Miska allowed singles in the first, second, and fourth innings, and a triple in the sixth. She faced just four batters over the minimum and needed just 75 pitches to complete the shutout.

LaLa Romero (FR/Surprise, Ariz.) had two hits and scored twice and Neiles also had two hits.

Runs were hard to come by for both teams in the second game as UJ's Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.) and BCU's Mackenna Raby traded zeroes through six innings.

The Jimmies had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh, but a fielder's choice and fly out ended the threat.

In the bottom of the seventh, Kylee Lukes singled with one out, then Alexis Westercamp reached on an error with Lukes advancing to third. During the next at-bat, Lukes came home on a passed ball for the winning run.

Ally Battistoni (FR/Elizabeth, Colo.), Santina Zito, Gracie Fisher, Katie Reisdorfer, and Gentrey Turin (SO/Sandy, Ore.) each had a hit for Jamestown. Merchant struck out two and did not walk a batter in 6 1/3 innings pitched.
