Jimmies Sweep Marauders with Back-to-Back Walk-Off Finishes

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team moved to 29-16 overall after sweeping a conference doubleheader against the University of Mary at the Nelson Family Bubble. The Jimmies displayed incredible resilience, surviving a seventh-inning comeback in the opener before cruising to a mercy-rule victory in the nightcap.

Game 1: Jamestown 6, UMary 7
The opener was a back-and-forth battle that saw Jamestown narrowly escape with an 8-7 victory. After the Jimmies built a 6-2 lead through two innings, the Marauders charged back with three runs, highlighted by a ground-rule RBI double from Madison Shamanski and an RBI single from Kaitlyn McLaughlin. Genevieve Hastings later drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the third run of the frame. They later went on to tie the game at 7-7 in the top of the seventh following a Ariana Retuta RBI groundout and a Jimmie throwing error that allowed the tying run to score. The Jimmies came back and with the winning run on base in the bottom of the seventh, Kylie Yanzuk delivered a clutch walk-off single to left center to drive in Madelyn Webb for the win. Hope Ransome earned her ninth win of the season in the circle allowing just two hits and two runs.

Game 2: Jamestown 9, UMary 1
The nightcap featured a dominant Jamestown offense that ended in a 9-1 five-inning victory. Aubrey Quern was masterful again, allowing only one run on just two hits while striking out four Marauders. The Marauders recorded their only hit and run of the nightcap at the top of the third when Daisy Sparrow singled up the middle to score Genevieve Hastings. The Jimmies offense explosion happened in the bottom of the fourth hightled by a single from Peyton Quam which forced a UMary throwing error to first that scored Natalie Draper and Madelyn Webb. Kassidy Bennett then doubles down the left field line to score Lauren Weigel and Quam. Lastly, Sydney Grendler singles to the left side to score Maddie Spaeth to give the Jimmies a 8-1 lead. The Jimmie offense then effectively ended the game in the bottom of the fifth when Sonya Rodgers drew a patient walk with the bases loaded to plate the final run and trigger the mercy rule.
