JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team hosted Augustana University Saturday afternoon at Trapper Field, with the Vikings coming away with the sweep by scores of 2-0 and 8-0.
Game One Summary
Augustana starting pitcher Teya Speltz kept the Jamestown offense off-balance all day, tossing a complete-game shutout.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning. Speltz helped her own cause by leading off with a single up the middle, and she advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Ella Cooper. Two batters later, Desi Cuevas delivered an RBI single to left field to bring Speltz home, giving Augustana a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning, capitalizing on Jamestown miscues. Kierra Lubovich reached first base safely on a fielding error and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sidney Smart. Stella Harber then reached on a throwing error, allowing Lubovich to score an unearned run to make it 2-0.
UJ struggled to manufacture scoring opportunities against Speltz. The Jimmies' only hits of the contest came via a single to center field by
Maddie Spaeth in the fourth inning and a single to right center by
Jorja Hainsworth in the seventh inning.

Game Two Summary
The Jimmies continued to struggle with generating offensive momentum, falling 8-0 in six innings in game two.
The loss drops the Jimmies' overall record to 30-21 (11-17 NSIC), while Augustana improves to 26-25 (18-10 NSIC).
Augustana took control of the game early, manufacturing two unearned runs in the top of the first inning by capitalizing on Jamestown errors. Andrea Cain scored the game's first run on a throwing error by the catcher, and Susie Tollefson later executed a successful steal of home plate to put the Vikings up 2-0.
The Vikings broke the game open with a four-run surge in the third inning. Kierra Lubovich successfully stole home for the first run of the frame. Ella Cooper followed with an RBI single through the left side, and Bri Lee capped the inning with a two-run double to left-center, extending the Augustana lead to 6-0.
In the top of the sixth, Augustana enacted the run rule by adding two final runs. Desi Cuevas delivered an RBI double to right field to score Cain, and Lubovich added an RBI single to right field to bring Cuevas home, finalizing the score at 8-0.
Jamestown scattered six hits across the contest but stranded seven runners on base.
Sydney Grendler paced the Jimmie offense with a pair of singles.
Lauren Weigel and
Natalie Draper provided the only extra-base hits for Jamestown, each recording a double.
