Jimmies Stumble in Challenging Road Doubleheader at SMSU

MARSHALL, Minn. – The University of Jamestown softball team faced a difficult afternoon on Saturday, dropping both ends of a conference doubleheader against Southwest Minnesota State University at Mustang Field. Defensive miscues and a potent Mustang offense combined to halt the Jimmies' momentum, moving their overall record to 30-19 and 11-15 in NSIC play.

Game 1: Southwest Minn. 10, Jamestown 0
The opener saw the Jimmies held scoreless in a 10-0 five-inning defeat. Despite a lead-off double from Kasydi Bennett in the first inning and a single from Lauren Weigel in the third, Jamestown was unable to find the scoreboard against Mustang pitching. Southwest Minnesota State blew the game open with a seven-run second inning, taking advantage of four walks and a pair of timely RBI singles. Aubrey Quern was tagged with the loss, while Abby Blair provided relief for the final 2.2 innings.

Game 1: Southwest Minn. 17, Jamestown 3
The nightcap proved to be even more of an uphill battle as the Jimmies fell 17-3 in another five-inning contest. Jamestown took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Madelyn Webb and added unearned runs in the second and third innings. However, the Mustangs responded with a staggering 12-run fourth inning, recording 10 hits in the frame to pull away decisively. Hope Ransome took the loss after surrenderring eight earned runs over 3.1 innings.
