ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The Jimmie softball team split a pair of games with Dakota State (S.D.) Sunday at the Presentation College Dome Tournament.
Jamestown won the opener 7-0 and lost 6-4 in the second game.
Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) (3-2) pitched a three-hit shutout and struck out 13 as the Jimmies' win streak reached seven games. Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA), Kaitlyn Combo (SO/Yuba City, CA), Brittany Rheault (JR/West Fargo, ND), and Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA) all had two hits.
Rheault and Halverson each doubled and Combo hit her first home run of the season. Keller drove in three runs, while Combo plated two, and Duchi and Dunnigan brought in the other runs.
Dakota State took a 3-1 lead after the first inning in game two, but UJ tied it with two runs in the second, and led 4-3 going into the fourth. The Trojans scored twice in the bottom half to retake the lead, then added another run in the fifth.
Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID) and Tifani Schorzman (JR/Coeur d'Alene, ID) had three hits apiece and each drove in a run. Duchi and Kylie Macaig (SO/Airdrie, AB) also had run scoring hits.
Rheault (3-2) took the loss in relief, pitching three innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits. Keller started but was unable to retire a batter in the second inning, allowing four hits and three runs (two earned).
The Jimmies will head to Tucson, Ariz., for their annual spring trip March 5-10.
