JAMESTOWN-- Tyler Chavez-Leech (FR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored twice and Brandon Schaber (SO/Kelowna, British Columbia) added a goal and four assists as the Jimmie hockey team defeated Dakota College at Bottineau 6-2 in an exhibition game Saturday night at Wilson Arena.
Chavez-Leech put Jamestown ahead 1-0 just 50 seconds into the second period on assists from Garret Browning (SO/Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Ryan Pereverzoff (FR/Kelowna, British Columbia). The Lumberjacks tied the game at 8:25 of the second on a goal by Logan Robinson.
Dylan Haney (FR/Brandon, Manitoba) broke the tie with 1:31 left in the second, assisted by Schaber and Phoenix McElroy-Scott (SR/Morden, Manitoba).
The second of Chavez-Leech's goals gave UJ a 3-1 lead 1:09 into the third. Schaber and Eric Buckley (SO/Penticton, British Columbia) were credited with assists. Benji Smieja (JR/Warroad, Minn.) made it 4-1 courtesy of Schaber and Michael Pruss (SO/Red Deer, Alberta) at the 8:34 mark. Pruss added a goal of his own at 14:45 from Smieja and Schaber.
Wade Thompson scored for DCB at 15:43 to make it 5-2, then Schaber answered for the Jimmies at 17:54 with assists from Allan Pruss (SO/Red Deer, Alberta) and Michael Pruss.
Tyson Brouwer (SO/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 14 saves for Jamestown. Tallon Kramer (FR/Grand Prairie, Alberta) played the final 28:32 and finished with six saves. Jay Pringle had 35 shots for the Lumberjacks.
Jamestown hosts Minot State 7:00 p.m. Friday at Wilson Arena.
