The Jimmie softball team hosted the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in the first matchup between the two teams since last season's North Star Athletic Association conference championship. The Blue Hawks emerged with the sweep on Saturday, taking game one 2-0 in 11 innings, then winning 7-4 in the second game.
Alex Watson allowed just two hits in 11 innings and struck out 14 batters as the Blue Hawks plated two runs in the top of the 11th for the win.
Emma Keller (SO/Poulsbo, WA) had both hits for the Jimmies, finishing 2 for 4 with a stolen base.
Alex Vargas doubled to score Morgan Glowa, who led off the inning with a single, for the first Blue Hawk run. Vargas would score the second run of the inning on a passed ball.
Brittany Rheault (SO/West Fargo, ND) took the loss for the Jimmies, also pitching 11 innings. She allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out five.
Vargas had three of Dickinson State's nine hits, finishing 3 for 5.
In game two, the Blue Hawks and Jimmies traded runs in the first inning. Dickinson State scored four times in the top of the fourth to make it 5-1.
Jamestown rallied for three runs in the bottom half to cut the lead to 5-4, which remained the score until the top of the seventh.
Vargas homered to make it 6-4 Dickinson State, then Andrea Rodriguez scored on a steal of home for the second run of the inning.
Watson got the final three outs to earn the save for winning pitcher Amanda Flores. Flores pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one.
Hanna Dunnigan (JR/Regina, SK, Canada) took the loss for the Jimmies. She pitched a complete game and allowed just three earned runs on eight hits. She walked one and struck out 11.
Vargas continued her big day at the plate, with three hits in four at-bats and five runs batted in. Morgan Glowa was 2 for 3.
Sydney Jeffers (SR/Richmond, BC, Canada) and Emily Newman (SR/Victoria, BC, Canada) both had two hits for Jamestown.
Dickinson State remains on top of the North Star Athletic Association, with an overall record of 36-7 and a conference record of 15-1. The Jimmies fall to 27-10 overall and 11-4 in conference play.
