Brittany Rheault tosses no-hitter; Jimmies shutout Bellevue twice

WEST FARGO, N.D.-- Brittany Rheault pitched a no-hitter in game one and Hanna Dunnigan followed with a shutout of her own in game two as the Jimmie softball team swept Bellevue (Neb.) 3-0 and 8-0.

Sunday's doubleheader was moved to West Fargo's Sheyenne High School due to inclement weather in Jamestown. Despite playing away from the friendlly confines of Trapper Field, the Jimmies made themselves at home right away.

Autumn Wang's three-run home run in the bottom of the first provided UJ with all the runs they would need on the way to a 3-0 win. It was the tenth home run of the season for Wang, who became the first Jimmie since Kate Johnson in 2012 to hit 10 homers in a season. The Jimmies racked up four hits in the inning, which would be all the offense they would muster against Kelli Fisher. After facing eight batters in the inning, Fisher set down the next 15 Jimmie hitters.

Rheault was dominant in pitching her first career no-hitter, the eighth in Jimmie history. She allowed just four baserunners while striking out six. The win improved her record to 11-3 on the season. Fisher (16-9) was the hard luck loser for Bellevue.

Dunnigan allowed three singles in the top of the first in game two, but recorded a strikeout and induced a popup to get out of a bases-loaded jam.

As in the opener, the Jimmie offense put up three runs in their first at-bat. Sydney Jeffers scored on a Rylee Perez single, then Perez scored on a steal of home. Dunnigan helped her own cause with a double to plate Emily Newman, who reached on a walk.

Sydney Greenlund hit her third home run of the season leading off the bottom of the second, making it 4-0 Jimmies. Jamestown would tack on two more in the third, Emma Keller doubled to bring home pinch-runner Melora Smoke, and would later score on an error by the Bellevue second baseman to make it 6-0.

Greenlund ended the game with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to score Wang and Keller.

Dunnigan (10-3) pitched her first shutout of the season, allowing just four hits. She walked three and struck out seven, passing the 300 career strikeouts mark while adding to her school record. Erin Sharpe (7-7) took the loss for Bellevue, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. She walked one and struck out four.

Jamestown (26-7, 11-2 North Star Athletic Association) will host Valley City State (N.D.) in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, while the Bruins (24-16, 11-3 NSAA) travel to Valley City on Monday for a doubleheader against the Vikings.
