TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie softball wrapped up day three of its Arizona road trip by winning one of three games Monday. Jamestown defeated Missouri Valley College 7-5 to begin the day, then fell 5-2 to Madonna (Mich.) and 8-7 to University of Great Falls.
In the opener, the Jimmies jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings before Missouri Valley scored five times in the fourth and fifth innings to make a game of it.
Rylee Perez (SR/Indio, CA) had a three-run inside the park home run during UJ's four-run first inning. Kyle Macaig, Emma Keller (SO/Poulsbo, WA), Autumn Wang (SR/Devils Lake, ND), and Linda Ontiveros (JR/Yuma, AZ) all recorded two hits for the Jimmies.
Keller (2-1) made her first start of the season and picked up the win. She pitched five innings, allowing eight hits and four earned runs. She struck out two and walked two before giving way to Brittany Rheault (SO/West Fargo, ND) in the sixth. Rheault recorded her second save of the season, getting the final six outs while giving up just one hit.
Game two saw Jamestown face Madonna University. The Crusaders scored twice in the top of the first only to see the Jimmies answer back with two runs of their own. Wang's two-run double scored Emily Newman (SR/Victoria, BC, Canada) and Hanna Dunnigan (JR/Regina, SK, Canada) to even the score at two.
Those two runs would be the only offense the Jimmies would manage. Madonna added three runs in their half of the fourth to go up 5-2, which was how the game would end.
Sydney Jeffers (SR/Richmond, BC, Canada), Dunnigan, and Wang combined for six of the eight UJ hits. Brittany Rheault (4-2) took the loss while pitching her fourth complete game of the season. She gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out one.
The final game of the day against Great Falls saw the Jimmies break out of their scoring drought. UJ scored twice in the first before Great Falls answered back with three in the top of the second. Jamestown put up two more runs in the next half-inning to retake the lead at 4-3. The Argos would add another three spot to go ahead 6-4, then put up two more runs in the fifth to take an 8-4 lead.
Jamestown rallied for two runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 8-6, courtesy of a Sydney Jeffers RBI double and an RBI single by Emily Newman. In the seventh, the Jimmies added one more run to make it 8-7 and got the tying run to third base, but were unable to get the runner home.
Rylee Perez led the Jimmies' 14-hit attack by going 3 for 4. Autumn Wang had another two-hit game, her third of the day, and Sydney Jeffers, Newman, and Brittany Rheault all had two hits each.
Hanna Dunnigan (3-2) pitched four innings and surrendered eight hits and eight runs in taking the loss.
UJ is now 9-5 on the season and will play Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and Siena Heights (Mich.) on Tuesday.
