Jamestown College's recent woes on the softball diamond followed the Jimmies to Sioux City, Iowa on Friday.

The Jimmies kicked off the Morningside Invitational with back-to-back, 1-run losses to Northwestern College (2-1) and Morningside College (5-4).

Jamestown College (9-12) has dropped its last five contests, and has fallen in eight of their last 10.

The Jimmies will try to snap their recent skid today, as they'll continue the invitational at 11 a.m. against Dakota Wesleyan (14-4) and at 3 p.m. against Mount Marty (2-14).

Northwestern College 2, Jamestown College 1

An RBI double to left field by Jimmie first baseman and cleanup batter Kate Johnson scored Kelsie Jensen and put Jamestown College out front 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

But a 2-run top of the third by Northwestern, which began with a lead-off triple by center-fielder Kara Nonnemacher, led the Raiders over the Jimmies by one.

Nonnemacher was later thrown out and home from first by Johnson, while trying to score on a fielder's choice. But an RBI single by the Raiders' Kami Kuhlmann and a sacrifice fly by Shelby Johnson later in the inning gave Northwestern all the offense they'd need.

Jessica Lees shouldered the loss for Jamestown College, allowing two earned runs on two hits with a strikeout and two walks in three innings of work. D.J. Johnson came on in relief in the top of the fourth, holding the Raiders scoreless by allowing just two hits, while striking out a pair and walking a pair.

The Jimmies rang up nine hits on Northwestern starter Katie VandeVoort, but just had the one run to show for it as they stranded four runners. A total of seven Jimmies all had one hit, while Celene Eccles went 2-for-3 in the game.

Jamestown College committed three errors in the field, as Lees fell to 5-7 on the season.

Morningside College 5, Jamestown College 4

Jamestown College starting pitcher Steph Bolt never recorded an out against the host team Mustangs.

Bolt walked in a run and later gave up a grand slam to Morningside first baseman Kati Steffen in the bottom of the first, ending her day after facing just six batters. Bolt (0-4) allowed five earned runs on a pair of hits and three walks.

DJ Johnson would throw the rest of the way for Jamestown College, holding the Mustangs scoreless allowing four hits, walking one and striking out five after 22 batters faced.

The Jimmies mounted a comeback in the top of the fifth, where they scored three runs off Morningside starter Emma Remy. Kelsie Jensen recorded an RBI double in the inning, which was followed up with a 2-RBI single from designated hitter Erica Rush.

Rush ended the game going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Kate Johnson, Kristi Michaud and Kelsie DeBroeck also had multiple hits for the Jimmies, but Jamestown College ended up stranding nine runners against the Mustangs.

Jamestown College tacked on its fourth run in the top of the sixth as DeBroeck scored on a wild pitch, but the Mustangs' Kayla Salonen stepped into the circle in the seventh and allowed just one hit in the final frame to nail down the save.

The win went to Remy, who allowed four runs on 10 hits, while striking out four and walking four. Steffen finished batting 2-for-3 with a run scored and 4 RBIs.
