Softball Get A Pair Of Wins

The bats came alive for the Jamestown College women's softball team in Tucson, Ariz., on Wednesday.

The Jimmies belted out 26 hits and scored 17 runs in back-to-back victories over the University of Great Falls (Mont.) and Trinity International (Ill.) at the Tucson Invitational, as the Jimmies improved to 5-7 overall.

Jamestown College gets back after it today against a pair of teams that hail from the state of Illinois. The Jimmies will face Olivet Nazarene University at 2 p.m., with a game against Judson College to follow at 4 p.m.

Olivet Nazarene is ranked No. 15 in the NAIA.

The Jimmies wasted little time in an eight-run blowout over the University of Great Falls.

Jamestown College batted around in both the first and second innings to lead 10-3 after two and never really looked back.

Erica Rush went 3-for-4 at the dish, while Celene Eccles and Amy Shadinger each batted a perfect three for three. Eccles (3) and Shadinger (2) combined for five of the Jimmies' 11 RBI's in the game.

Jamestown College smacked 16 hits in the game, while the Jimmies' Jessica Lees limited Great Falls to just four hits from the circle.

"We hit the ball really well. They ended up using three different pitchers in the game," JC coach Kevin Gall said. "We were very happy to see us come out and hit the ball like that. We've struggled in some games and to come out and get that many hits was a very big confidence builder for our team."

It was the little things that made the big difference for the Jimmies vs. Trinity International, as the Jimmies won by three.

"Trinity International played really well defensively," Gall said. "They made some good plays and our team did a better job of executing. We sacrifice bunted a few times and were able to get some people in position to score, which hasn't always been the case for us so far.

"We haven't executed very well with our offensive fundamentals and today we were able to do that and come up with a hit once or twice. That made it a good day."

Jamestown College freshman righty Emily Snow notched the victory, and junior Steph Bolt came in and nailed down the save in the top of the seventh.

Trinity International scored first in the top of the third, but JC answered with two in the bottom of the frame and four more over the next three.

Bolt also went 2-for-2 at the plate while Shadinger went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and Kirstin Enos went 2-for-3. Trinity International out-hit the Jimmies 11-10.
