Ian Stanley named new Jimmie men's volleyball head coach

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — The University of Jamestown Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of Ian Stanley as the new head coach of the Jimmies men's volleyball program. Stanley, an accomplished alumnus, returns to guide the NCAA Division II program following an extensive coaching career in California.

Athletic Director Brian Mistro expressed his enthusiasm for the hire: "We are thrilled to welcome Ian back to Jamestown. Throughout this process, it was clear that Ian is committed to providing a people-first experience for our student-athletes. He understands that developing young men off the court is just as important as the success they achieve on it, and his leadership will be a tremendous asset to our campus community."

Stanley brings a diverse coaching background to the university. Most recently, he served as the Head Volleyball Coach at Volitude Volleyball starting in May 2025, where he led teams, camps, and clinics through programs aimed at individual and team improvement. In this role, he provided technical, tactical, and mental guidance to players. As the Boy's Club Director at Volitude Volleyball from May 2025 to June 2026, Stanley ensured the health of the club program through expansion, budgeting, and forming relationships.

"I am truly honored to be able to return to the University of Jamestown as the head coach," Stanley said. "To be able to follow in the footsteps and carry on the legacy of the fantastic coaches that have come before me is a blessing. I cannot wait to give back to the community that has welcomed me with open arms and made me a part of the Jimmie family."

In addition to his club experience, Stanley worked as the head volleyball coach at Sonora High School from August 2025 to April 2026. During his tenure, he collaborated with assistant coaches, faculty, and directors to provide an elite and competitive program. His responsibilities included balancing budgets, creating game schedules, and ensuring all operations functioned smoothly, while also recruiting and developing current and future athletes. Prior to his time at Sonora High School, he was the head volleyball coach at A4 Volleyball Club from April 2024 to February 2025.

Stanley is a familiar face to the Jimmies, having played at the University of Jamestown as well as Los Angeles Pierce College. As a student-athlete at Jamestown, he was a member of the conference championship teams in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, he was also recognized as the Jimmies' NAIA Champion of Character.

He earned his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching from the University of Jamestown in December 2023.
