CHICAGO, Ill. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Roosevelt University on Saturday afternoon at the Goodman Center.
The Jimmies battled throughout the match but ultimately dropped the contest by scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-18.
Set-by-set highlights
Set 1 (Roosevelt 25, Jamestown 21):
Jamestown and Roosevelt traded points early, with neither side able to create much separation. Kills from Chase Hawkinson helped the Jimmies stay within reach, while Roosevelt built a mid-set advantage behind consistent offensive play. Trailing late, Jamestown mounted a strong push, rallying to tie the set at 19-19 following a service ace from Rowan Shaughnessy. However, the Lakers responded with a late run, closing out the set with key kills to take the early lead.
Set 2 (Roosevelt 25, Jamestown 19):
Roosevelt carried its momentum into the second set, using early service pressure to gain control. The Lakers opened up a lead behind back-to-back aces and extended the margin through the middle portion of the set. Jamestown worked to stay within striking distance, with contributions from Joshua Crowley and Lucas Soeldner, but Roosevelt maintained its rhythm and closed the set to take a 2-0 match advantage.
Set 3 (Roosevelt 25, Jamestown 18):
The Lakers opened the third set on a 7-1 run, putting the Jimmies on the back foot early. Jamestown responded with a mid-set rally, cutting the deficit to 19-18 behind kills from Ethan Carroll and Cohen Johnson. Despite the push, Roosevelt regained control late, finishing the match on a closing run to secure the sweep.
Statistical Leaders
Chase Hawkinson led the Jimmies with six kills, while Joshua Crowley added four kills and two digs. Lucas Soeldner was efficient offensively, recording three kills on a .500 hitting percentage, and Cohen Johnson contributed two kills along with four total blocks. At setter, Rowan Shaughnessy finished with 18 assists and a service ace. Defensively, Jackson Holmes led the back row with four digs.
