CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team fell in four sets to Thomas More University on Friday evening at the Connor Convocation Center.
The Jimmies battled throughout the match but ultimately dropped the contest by scores of 25-22, 25-27, 19-25, and 20-25.
Set-by-set highlights
Set 1 (Jamestown 25, Thomas More 22): Jamestown and Thomas More traded points early, with neither side able to create much separation. Kills from Ethan Carroll and Chase Hawkinson helped the Jimmies stay within reach, while the Saints built a mid-set advantage. Trailing 12-16, Jamestown mounted a strong push, using a service run by Ladarius Williams to eventually take a 24-21 lead. The Jimmies closed out the set following an attack error by Thomas More to take the early lead.
Set 2 (Thomas More 27, Jamestown 25): Thomas More carried its momentum into the second set, but Jamestown responded to take a 9-5 lead behind kills from Blake Kibler. The Saints worked to stay within striking distance, eventually tying the set at 15-15. The teams battled through 13 ties in the set, including a late 25-25 deadlock following a kill by Dominic Rossi. However, Thomas More regained control late, using a service ace from Will Strasser to secure the set and even the match.
Set 3 (Thomas More 25, Jamestown 19): The Saints opened the third set with aggressive play, though Jamestown stayed close early behind kills from Joshua Crowley. Thomas More used a mid-set rally to extend the margin, eventually building a 23-17 lead. Despite a late push from the Jimmies, the Saints maintained their rhythm and closed the set on a service error to take a 2-1 match advantage.
Set 4 (Thomas More 25, Jamestown 20): Thomas More opened the fourth set strongly, building an 11-6 lead following a service ace. Jamestown responded with a mid-set rally, cutting the deficit to 18-23 behind kills from Lucas Soeldner and Cristian Sotelo. Despite the push, the Saints regained control late, finishing the match on a service error to secure the victory.
Statistical Leaders
Chase Hawkinson led the Jimmies with 11 kills and five digs, while Ethan Carroll added eight kills and four total blocks. Joshua Crowley and Ladarius Williams each contributed six kills, with Crowley adding a service ace and four digs. At setter, Rowan Shaughnessy finished with 32 assists and four blocks. Defensively, Treyton Kaul led the back row with nine digs.
