CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. — The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team closed out its season on a high note, defeating Thomas More University in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Connor Convocation Center.
The Jimmies controlled the pace throughout the match, securing the sweep by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-21.
Set-by-set highlights
Set 1 (Jamestown 25, Thomas More 19): Jamestown and Thomas More traded points early before the Jimmies began to pull away mid-set. Kills from Amery Roberts and Chase Hawkinson helped Jamestown establish a lead, while the Saints struggled with several attack errors. A service ace by Lucas Soeldner extended the margin to 14-12, and the Jimmies maintained their momentum to close the set following a final Thomas More attack error.
Set 2 (Jamestown 25, Thomas More 22): The Jimmies opened the second set on a 4-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Lucas Soeldner and a service ace by Amery Roberts. Thomas More fought back to tie the set at 15-15, leading to a back-and-forth battle late in the frame. With the score tied at 21-21, Jamestown regained control with a kill from Chase Hawkinson and a Saints service error to take a 2-0 match advantage.
Set 3 (Jamestown 25, Thomas More 21): The third set remained tight, with nine ties and three lead changes as both teams battled for control. Jamestown utilised strong play at the net, recording five blocks in the set to disrupt the Saints' offense. Leading 24-21 after a late push, the Jimmies secured the match victory on a final kill by Ethan Carroll.
Statistical Leaders
Chase Hawkinson led the Jimmies with 12 kills and five total blocks, while Amery Roberts added 11 kills, two service aces, and seven digs. Lucas Soeldner contributed five kills and four digs, and Ethan Carroll finished with three kills and three blocks. At setter, Cristian Sotelo orchestrated the offense with 30 assists. Defensively, Amery Roberts led the team with seven digs, followed by Hawkinson and Soeldner with four each.
