MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The tenth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team saw its season come to a close with a 5-0 loss to No. 6 University of Michigan-Dearborn on Friday in pool play at the ACHA National Championship.
Despite a strong relief performance in net from
Lilah Drew, the Jimmies could not recover from an early deficit and struggled to solve Michigan-Dearborn goaltender Kenna Borso.
Michigan-Dearborn dictated the pace in the opening frame, burying three goals in the first 10 minutes of play. Pallavi Hari opened the scoring just 3:39 into the game with an unassisted tally that would stand as the game-winner.
At the 7:34 mark, Cadence Pero doubled the lead off an assist from Stephanie Hatch. Just 35 seconds later, Grace Taylor added another unassisted goal, leaving the Jimmies in a 3-0 hole at the first intermission.
The Wolverines extended their lead to 4-0 at 7:19 of the second period when Andi Evers found the back of the net, assisted by Grace Adriaanse. Following the goal, Jamestown made a change in net, bringing in
Lilah Drew to replace starter
Maddie Sylvestre.
The switch provided a defensive spark. Drew was flawless in relief, stopping all 15 shots she faced over the final 28:39 of game time to keep the Jimmies within striking distance. Sylvestre finished her night with 18 saves on 22 shots.
However, the Jamestown offense could not break through. The Jimmies managed 26 shots on goal, but Borso turned them all aside to secure the shutout for Michigan-Dearborn. Charlise Wharram capped the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:41 of the third period to make it a 5-0 final.
