FREMONT, Neb. – In a tightly contested defensive battle, the No. 10 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision to third-ranked McKendree University on Thursday afternoon at Sidner Ice Arena in the Women's Midwest College Hockey conference tournament.
Despite a strong performance in net from goaltender
Maddie Sylvestre, the Jimmies were unable to solve McKendree's defense.
The game remained scoreless through the first 37 minutes of play, with both goaltenders standing tall. McKendree finally broke the deadlock late in the second period. At the 17:15 mark, Brittney Kambeitz netted the game's only goal, assisted by Alexandra Binning and Kiley Hasenfratz.
Jamestown looked for the equalizer in the third period and pulled Sylvestre for an extra attacker with 1:18 remaining, but could not find the back of the net.
Sylvestre was stellar between the pipes for Jamestown, stopping 24 of the 25 shots she faced. On the other end, McKendree's Rachel Staresinic stopped all 18 shots sent her way to earn the shutout.
The Jimmies face Lindenwood University on Friday at 11 a.m.
