Bashnick's 45 saves not enough as Jimmies fall to Minot State

JAMESTOWN, N.D.-- The University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team was unable to salvage a split of their weekend series against in-state rival Minot State University, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Beavers on Saturday afternoon at John L. Wilson Arena.

Despite a stellar 45-save performance from Jimmie goaltender Adriana Bashnick, Minot State's offensive volume and special teams proved to be the difference. MSU outshot Jamestown 48-23 in the contest.

After a scoreless first period, the Beavers broke the deadlock midway through the second frame. Jade Olszewski scored her second goal of the season at the 11:02 mark, assisted by Taylor Terin, to give Minot State a 1-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

MSU extended its advantage early in the third period on the power play. Kinley Brassard netted the eventual game-winning goal at 1:13, with assists credited to Addison Dyck and Abby Tallman.

UJ answered back just five minutes later to cut the deficit in half. Emma Pollock scored her first goal of the season at the 6:11 mark, assisted by Jorja Atkinson, making it a 2-1 game.

The Beavers regained their two-goal cushion later in the period with another power-play strike. Claire Hudson's insurance goal at 13:49, assisted by Paige Crossley and Karlyn Gudz, sealed the 3-1 victory.

Minot State capitalized on its special teams opportunities, finishing 2-for-5 on the power play. The Jimmies were unable to convert on the man advantage, going 0-for-3 on the afternoon. Jamestown accrued 10 penalty minutes on five infractions, while MSU served six minutes on three infractions.

Jillian Ackerman earned the win in net for the Beavers, stopping 22 of the 23 shots she faced. Bashnick played 57:25 between the pipes before coming off for an extra attacker, stopping 45 of 48 shots.

The Jimmies return to the ice on Thursday, October 8 at Midland University. Puck drop is set for 8:30 p.m.
