JAMESTOWN, N.D. — University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 Women's Hockey head coach
Hannah Griffin has been selected to serve as an assistant coach for the Women's National University team at the 2027 FISU Winter World University Games, scheduled for January 13–25, 2027, in Changchun, China.
"I am honored and excited to represent our country, work with a group of highly skilled and talented players, and be part of a well-respected and experienced coaching staff," Griffin said. "This is an incredible opportunity, and I am very grateful to be a part of it."
Entering her third season at the helm of the Jimmies, Griffin was hired prior to the 2024-2025 campaign. She recently guided the program to historic heights, securing Jamestown's first-ever appearance at the Women's Division 1 National Championships during the 2025-2026 season.
Before her time at Jamestown, Griffin served as an assistant coach at Midland University, where she helped the Warriors achieve a stellar 29-1-2 record in 2023-2024. Griffin also brings extensive head coaching experience from her tenure at Adrian College (2019-2022). Across six total seasons on the Bulldogs' staff—including three as an assistant—she contributed to four consecutive Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) conference titles and an impressive 136-36-4 overall record.
A native of Lakewood, Colo., Griffin grew up playing for the Colorado Select Girls organization. She later played at the NCAA Division III level for Adrian College from 2009 to 2012 before becoming the inaugural captain of their ACHA Women's Division 1 team during the 2012-2013 season.
Joining Griffin on the Team USA staff are Head Coach Jason White (Midland University), Director of Player Personnel Chris Lowes (Concord, Va.), Team Doctor Armand McGibbon (Lynchburg, Va.), and Equipment Manager Peter Carson, ATC (Durham, N.C.)
The 2027 women's tournament in Changchun will feature eight teams divided into two round-robin brackets. The United States is placed in Group B alongside Canada, Czechia, and Korea. Group A consists of Iran, Japan, Slovakia, and Student Neutral Athletes from the Russian Federation.
Following three preliminary games, all eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals. Preliminary rounds will take place at the 2,460-seat Nanguan Ice Arena, while the semifinals and championship matches will be hosted at the 8,552-seat Changchun Olympic Park Ice Arena.
The FISU World University Games are the world's largest multi-sport event for student-athletes and the second-largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
The 13-day event will bring together more than 12,500 student-athletes and officials across their Summer and Winter editions, representing more than 150 countries in the Summer Games and more than 50 countries in the Winter Games.
Initiated in France in 1960, the games have been hosted in the U.S. twice (Lake Placid in 1972 and 2023) and will be making their second appearance in China (Harbin, 2009). The 2027 Games will be broadcast to over 100 countries, reaching an estimated 300 million viewers worldwide.
