Jimmies fall to Beavers on Senior Night

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The No. 10 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team fell 5-1 to third-ranked Minot State University on Saturday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.

The Beavers jumped on the board early in the first period, with Makayla Peters netting her first goal of the season at the 5:34 mark, assisted by Krissy Rink and Addison Dyck.

UJ responded quickly on the power play to tie the game. At 9:36, Gaby Schroder scored her eighth goal of the campaign, capitalizing on a man-advantage with assists from Mikaela Nimetz and Bethany Wielgosh.

However, Minot State reclaimed the momentum before the first intermission, adding the go-ahead goal from Kinley Brassard at 12:15 and an insurance marker from Maggie Nicol at 16:02 to take a 3-1 lead into the locker room.

The Beavers extended their lead in the second period. Rink found the back of the net on a power play at 6:51, assisted by Erica Fijala, to make it 4-1. The goal prompted a goaltending change for Jamestown, with Maddie Sylvestre coming on in relief of starter Lilah Drew at the 8:10 mark.

In the third period, Kaitlyn Snyder capped the scoring for Minot State with a goal at 7:50, assisted by Karlyn Gudz and Abby Pineau, bringing the final score to 5-1.

Minot State outshot Jamestown 46-33 for the game, including a 15-11 advantage in the opening frame.

Sylvestre performed well in relief for the Jimmies, stopping 26 of the 27 shots she faced in 31:50 of ice time. Drew made 15 saves on 19 shots in 28:10 of ice time. Bailey Grunewald earned the victory for MSU, turning aside 32 of 33 shots.

Both teams converted once on the power play, with each side finishing 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
