JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's basketball team placed five players in double figures and used a strong second half to defeat Minnesota-Crookston 84-77 on Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.
Trailing by two at the break, the Jimmies (12-12, 10-8 NSIC) shot 53.4 percent from the field and outscored the Golden Eagles 45-36 in the final 20 minutes to secure the conference victory.
Minnesota-Crookston (4-20, 2-16 NSIC) started quickly, building an early 20-12 lead behind the play of Spencer Swenson. The Golden Eagles shot the ball well in the opening frame, taking a 41-39 advantage into halftime.
The Jimmies turned the tide in the second half with efficient offense and depth. Jamestown's bench proved to be a major factor, outscoring the UMC reserves 40-28 for the game. The Jimmies also took care of business at the free-throw line, converting 13-of-14 attempts (92.9 percent).
Thomas Diew led a balanced Jimmie attack with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added six rebounds. Anthony Walters followed closely with 17 points and five rebounds while playing a team-high 34 minutes.
Cole Glasgow chipped in 12 points and three assists, while Davis Walker and Ford Okehi each finished with 11 points. Zeke Austin provided a spark off the bench, knocking down three three-pointers to finish with nine points in just 11 minutes.
Spencer Swenson delivered a standout performance for Minnesota-Crookston, recording a double-double with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. Donez Lindsey added 15 points, and Brayden Carlson contributed 13 points on 5-of-5 shooting.
Jamestown finished the game shooting 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor, compared to 48.4 percent (31-of-64) for Minnesota-Crookston. The Golden Eagles held a slight edge on the glass, outrebounding Jamestown 33-30, including 11 offensive boards. UJ dished out 12 assists on their 31 made field goals.
The Jimmies are back in action on Thursday, February 12 at Minnesota Duluth.
