Dargons edge Jimmies in final seconds

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A game-winning basket in the closing seconds lifted MSU Moorhead to a 76-74 victory over the University of Jamestown men's basketball team on Thursday night at Harold Newman Arena.

Sam Hondl's jumper with two seconds remaining proved to be the difference as the Dragons (11-12, 8-9 NSIC) survived a back-and-forth battle to hand the Jimmies (11-12, 9-8 NSIC) a heartbreaking home loss.

MSU Moorhead took a 41-37 lead into the locker room after shooting well in the first half. The Jimmies responded in the second half, tightening up defensively and finding their rhythm on offense. Jamestown outscored the Dragons 37-35 in the final 20 minutes but could not secure the final stop needed to force overtime or take the win.

Anthony Walters led the way for Jamestown with 17 points on efficient 6-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. He also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists in 30 minutes of action.

Thomas Diew provided a spark in the frontcourt with 13 points and seven rebounds. Davis Walker added 11 points and three steals, while Cole Glasgow chipped in 10 points and three assists.

Isa El-Amin was the offensive catalyst for MSU Moorhead, pouring in a game-high 24 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Eddie Beeninga contributed 12 points, hitting four three-pointers, and Dominic Gooden added 11 points off the bench.

The Jimmies shot 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the field and 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from deep. MSUM finished at 48.4 percent (30-of-62) overall and connected on 12 three-pointers. Jamestown held the advantage on the glass, outrebounding the Dragons 33-27. The Jimmies controlled the interior scoring, recording 38 points in the paint compared to 32 for MSUM.
