FREMONT, Neb. – The 11th-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team struggled to generate offense in the series opener against No. 2 Midland University, falling 6-0 on Friday night at Sidner Ice Arena.

Midland controlled the pace from the puck drop, outshooting the Jimmies 41-16 over three periods. The Warriors opened the scoring at 4:32 of the first period with a goal from Jordan Bell.
The home team extended their lead in the second period, netting three goals. Kennedy Wood scored at 6:20, followed by Callie Maguire at 11:28. Darbi Poole made it 4-0 with an unassisted goal at 16:31, prompting a goaltending change for Jamestown.
Midland added two more in the third period, including a shorthanded goal by Kiara McGregor, to seal the 6-0 victory.
Britlyn Rasmussen started in net for Jamestown, making 19 saves on 23 shots in 36:31 of action.
Lilah Drew came on in relief, stopping 16 of 18 shots in the final 23:29. Meghan Stewart earned the shutout for Midland with 16 saves.
In a much closer contest on Saturday, the Jimmies dropped a 2-1 decision to the Warriors, concluding their weekend road trip.
After falling behind 1-0 on a first-period goal by Midland's Callie Maguire, UJ responded in the second period.
Bekah Nickisch tied the game at 7:54 of the middle frame, assisted by
Maddison Andrew.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 until late in the third period. With just over eight minutes remaining, Midland's Ashlyn Kuffler scored the game-winning goal on a power play at 11:57. Despite a strong defensive effort, Jamestown was unable to find the equalizer.
Maddie Sylvestre kept the Jimmies in the game with a stellar performance in goal, recording 29 saves on 31 shots.
UJ returns to Fremont, Neb., for the WMCH Conference Tournament, beginning Thursday, February 19.
