JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The 10
th-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team put on an offensive record-breaking performance Sunday afternoon, routing the University of Minnesota 12-0 at John L. Wilson Arena.
The 12 goals was a new single-game program record, beating the previous mark of 10, which UJ tied with yesterday's performance. Eleven different Jimmies recorded points, and
Britlyn Rasmussen earned the shutout in net as the Jimmies concluded the weekend sweep of the Gophers with a dominant performance on home ice.
UJ wasted no time getting on the board.
Jaeda Clayton opened the scoring just 4:24 into the first period, netting her second goal of the season off an assist from
Jayden Baker. The Jimmies added three more before the first intermission, with strikes from
Emma Durand, Clayton (her second of the game), and Baker, building a commanding 4-0 lead.
The offense continued to roll in the second period, led by
Bethany Wielgosh. Wielgosh scored three times in the middle frame (4:54, 8:28, and 16:57) to complete the hat trick.
Maddison Andrew and
Kiara Perrett also found the back of the net in the second, extending the lead to 9-0 after 40 minutes.
In the third period,
Mackenzie Couling,
Lana Cipriano, and
Mallory Docktor added goals to cap the scoring at 12-0. Cipriano's goal was her first as a Jimmies.
Wielgosh recorded a hat trick and added an assist for a four-point night, Durand finished with one goal and three assists, Couling tallied a goal and three assists, contributing to the Jimmies' sustained pressure, and Clayton's two first-period goals helped set the tone.
While the offense was buzzing, the Jimmie defense was stifling. UJ held UM to just five shots on goal for the entire game. Rasmussen was perfect when tested, stopping all five shots she faced to record the shutout victory.
The Jimmies return to the ice for a weekend series at Midland (Neb.) University on Friday, February 13.
