MASON CITY, Iowa — The University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team rallied with three unanswered second-period goals to claim a 4-2 victory over Waldorf University on Friday night at Mason City Arena.
Waldorf struck first early in the opening period when Audun Caple scored an even-strength goal at the 3:34 mark to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead. Jamestown was held scoreless in the first frame before taking total control of the contest in the second period.
The Jimmies leveled the game at 6:34 of the second period on a power-play goal by
Jace Grabinsky, set up by
Marcus Fritel. Three minutes later,
Rylan Gage put Jamestown ahead 2-1 at 9:32, with Fritel notching another assist.
Bryton Morrow extended the advantage to 3-1 at the 16:28 mark with what proved to be the game-winning goal, assisted by
Cameron Oien.
Waldorf pulled back within a goal early in the third period as Arturas Laurynavichus converted on the power play at 4:05, assisted by Jaden Aguilera and Logan Dearborn. However, the Jimmies sealed the victory at 14:50, as
Ray Warrack capitalized on a power-play opportunity with an assist from Grabinsky.
Jamestown was 2 for 5 on power-play opportunities on the night, while holding Waldorf to a 1-for-7 mark on the man advantage. Goaltender
Brandon Weare earned the win in net for the Jimmies, while Matthew Loney took the loss for Waldorf.
The teams finish their weekend series Saturday afternoon in Mason City with puck drop set for 2 p.m.
