No. 10 Jimmies fall in OT heartbreaker to 13th-ranked Indiana Tech

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The No. 10 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision in overtime to 13th-ranked Indiana Tech on Sunday afternoon at John L. Wilson Arena. Despite outshooting the Warriors 29-17, the Jimmies could not secure the victory in the extra session.

UJ wasted no time getting on the board. Just 21 seconds into the opening period, Gaby Schroder netted her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Mikaela Nimetz, to give the Jimmies an early 1-0 lead. Jamestown controlled the pace in the first, outshooting the Warriors 8-4 in the frame.

Indiana Tech found the equalizer midway through the second period. At the 9:37 mark, Kaitlyn Broeckel scored an unassisted goal to knot the game at 1-1. The Warriors picked up their offensive pressure in the second, putting 12 shots on goal compared to five for UJ.

The Jimmies reclaimed the lead early in the third period. Bethany Wielgosh scored her fourth of the year at 2:28, with Mackenzie Couling providing the assist.

Jamestown held the 2-1 advantage late into regulation, but Indiana Tech struck back with just over two minutes remaining. Avery Johnson tied the game at 17:53, assisted by Emily Harty and Sylvie Legault, forcing the game into overtime.

In the extra period, Allison Greene played the hero for the Warriors. Greene scored the game-winning goal unassisted at 2:03 of overtime to seal the 3-2 victory for Indiana Tech.

Warrior goaltender Rose Lennon earned the win, making 27 saves on 29 shots. UJ's Maddie Sylvestre took the overtime loss, stopping 14 of 17 shots faced.

Both teams were held scoreless on the power play, with the Jimmies going 0-for-1 and Indiana Tech finishing 0-for-2.

Jamestown will be at the WMCH Showcase in Maryland Heights, Mo., January 22-25, beginning with a game on Thursday against Midland University at 2:15 p.m.
