Jimmies open dual schedule at NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The University of Jamestown men's and women's track and field teams combined for seven event victories and a flurry of personal records at the Northern State Dual held at the Barnett Center Thursday evening.

Domination in the distance events and the throwing ring highlighted the meet for the Jimmies, with the men's team sweeping the top three spots in both the mile and the shot put.

The Jimmie men showcased significant depth in the field and on the track, led by a powerful performance from the throws squad. Sophomore Evan Schmit captured the shot put title with a personal record (PR) toss of 15.55 meters. He led a clean sweep for Jamestown, as sophomore Jobe Rystedt took second with a season best (SR) of 14.40m, and sophomore Ethan Halverson placed third with a season-best mark of 14.34m. Schmit also added a runner-up finish in the weight throw (14.62m), while sophomore Kobe Irmen set a personal best of 14.39m to take third.

On the track, the mile run belonged entirely to Jamestown. Freshman Braeden Kinzler crossed the line first in a personal-best time of 4:32.61. He was followed closely by freshman Noah Sayler (4:35.97 PR) in second and freshman David Ralios (4:46.79 PR) in third, completing the top-three sweep.

The Jimmie distance runners continued their success in the 800 meters and 3000 meters. Sophomore Gavyn Graham won the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:04.70, while freshman Adam Sobolik took third (2:07.88 PR). In the 3000 meters, freshman Aaron Devine claimed victory with a time of 9:20.65, followed by sophomore Clark Lortscher in second (9:32.12).

In the sprints, freshman Jordan Kellogg-Schmidt ran a personal-best 6.67 seconds to place fourth in the 55-meter dash. Freshman Andrew Rexin added a third-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles with a PR of 8.70.

The Jimmie women controlled the longer distances, winning the 800 meters, 1 mile, and 3000 meters.

Freshman Lydia Franson paced the field in the mile, breaking the tape in a personal-best 5:12.01. Freshman Annabelle LaFary joined her on the podium in third place with a PR of 5:29.32.

In the 3000 meters, freshman Hallie Person took home first place with a PR time of 10:49.99. Freshman Greta Goven rounded out the distance victories by winning the 800 meters in 2:29.05 (PR).

Senior Brenna Held led the way in field events, winning the shot put with a mark of 12.20 meters. She also secured a second-place finish in the weight throw with a season-best toss of 14.14 meters.

Other notable performances for the women included freshman Saige Gustafson taking second in the 55-meter dash with a PR of 7.53 seconds. In the pole vault, senior Quinn Bassingthwaite cleared a personal-best 3.33 meters to finish second, while sophomore Ruth Harris took third with a PR of 3.18 meters.
Harris also leaped to a season-best 10.26 meters to take second in the triple jump.
