Late rally falls short as Jimmies drop 3-2 decision to Minot State

MINOT, N.D. – The No. 10 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 hockey team nearly erased a three-goal deficit but fell 3-2 to fifth-ranked Minot State University on Saturday afternoon at Maysa Arena.

Minot State opened the scoring while shorthanded at 13:46 of the first period, with Journey Miller finding the net off assists from Paige Kozak and Makenna Beard. The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 in the second period when Payton Lang scored at the 8:28 mark.

The Jimmies broke through on the power play at 7:42 of the third period. Maddison Andrew scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Mikaela Nimetz, to cut the Minot State lead to 2-1.

Minot State responded quickly, regaining a two-goal cushion less than a minute later. Makenna Beard scored the eventual game-winner at 8:31.

Jamestown continued to fight back, pulling within one goal at 11:14 of the third when Alivia Tilbury scored her first of the season. Nimetz picked up her second assist of the night on the play, with Kelsey Amick also credited with a helper. However, the Jimmies could not find the equalizer before time expired.

Jimmie goaltender Lilah Drew was busy in net, making 31 saves on 34 shots. Jillian Ackerman earned the win for Minot State, stopping 22 of 24 shots.

The Jimmies finished 1-for-8 on the power play, while the Beavers were held scoreless on six power-play opportunities.

UJ is back in action on Sunday, January 18, hosting Indiana Tech at 12 p.m.
