JAMESTOWN, N.D. - The University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Midland University 4-1 in a physical matchup Saturday night at John L. Wilson Arena. The Jimmies scored three first-period goals and capitalized on two of their six power-play opportunities to secure the win in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Jamestown set the tone early, with Brad Fortin opening the scoring just 3:29 into the game, assisted by Carson Brown. Less than a minute later, at the 4:30 mark, Carter Johnson made it 2-0, with Matthew McIntyre getting the assist. The Jimmies' aggressive start was rewarded late in the period when Brown scored on the power play at 18:12 on assists from Trey Stephenson and Johnson, giving the home team a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The second period saw continued pressure from the Jimmies. Kaelan Shelton found the back of the net for Jamestown's second power-play goal of the night just over three minutes into the frame, extending the lead to 4-0. 

Midland University got on the scoreboard at 2:51 of the third period when Albin Augustsson scored his first of the season on an assist from John Dube. The final period was the most contentious, with the teams combining for 11 penalties totaling 56 minutes, including a major for cross checking, a ten-minute bench misconduct penalty, and a disqualification for abuse of an official.

Jamestown outshot Midland 38-30 for the game. Jimmie goalie Brandon Weare was solid in net, stopping 29 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the win. Midland's Liam Tereposky made 34 saves in the loss.

The Jimmies host Arizona State on Friday, October 3 at 7 p.m.
