FREMONT, Neb. – Four unanswered goals by the University of Midland turned a 1-1 tie into a 5-1 defeat for the University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team Friday afternoon at Sidner Ice Arena.
The Warriors got on the board late in the first period, with Victoria Campbell scoring her first of the game on assists from Callie Maguire and Kiara McGregor with just over a minute left to give Midland a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Jamestown responded early in the second period. Gaby Schroder found the back of the net just 67 seconds in on the power play, with Kiara Perrett assisting, to tie the game at 1-1. However, Midland capitalized on a power play of their own less than two minutes later, as Katie McNair scored, once again assisted by Maguire and McGregor, to reclaim a 2-1 lead.
The third period belonged to the Warriors, as they pulled away with three consecutive goals. Maguire made it 3-1 at 3:27 of the period, assisted by Jaden Greenlee. Campbell netted her second of the game at 8:43, with assists again from Maguire and McGregor. Greenlee rounded out the scoring at 15:38, assisted by Taylor Bell.
Shots were 37-20 in favor of Midland. The Warriors were particularly aggressive in the first period, putting 12 shots on goal to Jamestown's five. The Jimmies found their footing in the second period, keeping pace with 11 shots to Midland's 13, but the Warriors controlled the final frame with a 12-4 shot advantage.
UJ was successful on one of four power-play opportunities, while Midland went 1-for-2 with the skater advantage.
Maddie Sylvestre made 32 saves on 37 shots for the Jimmies. Her counterpart, Natalie Rampton, stopped 19 of the 20 shots she faced.
The Jimmies host MIdland on Friday, September 26 for the home opener at John L. Wilson Arena. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
