FREMONT, Neb. – The 11th-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 women's hockey team was defeated 2-0 by No. 1 Midland University Friday evening at Sidner Ice Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Midland broke the tie in the second, scoring both of the game's goals. Darbi Poole scored at 12:13, followed by a short-handed, unassisted goal from Jordan Bell at 19:19 to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
The Jimmies were unable to solve Midland goaltender Meghan Stewart, who stopped all 10 shots she faced to earn the shutout. Jamestown's Lilah Drew had a busy night in net, making 37 saves on 39 shots in the loss.
Midland outshot the Jimmies 39-10 for the game.
Both teams were held scoreless on the power play. Jamestown went 0-for-3 with the man advantage, while Midland was 0-for-7. The Jimmies were whistled for seven penalties totaling 14 minutes.
The teams return to the ice tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. to close out the weekend series.
