MINOT, N.D. – The ninth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team fell 2-1 to No. 3 Minot State University on Saturday evening in a penalty-filled contest at Maysa Arena.
After a scoreless first period, Minot State broke the deadlock with a power-play goal from Sheldin Howard at 10:25 of the second. The Beavers extended their lead to 2-0 with another power-play tally, this one from Joey Moffatt at 2:33 of the third period, which would stand as the game-winner.
The Jimmies got on the board with their own power-play goal at 7:55 of the third, when Darius Makse scored his second goal of the season, with assists from Raymond Warrack and Jordan Baranesky.
Brandon Weare stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced. MSU's Will Dyke had 13 saves on 14 shots.
Special teams played a major role, with Minot State going 2-for-6 on the power play, while Jamestown went 1-for-4. The game was a physical affair, with the Jimmies accumulating 21 penalty minutes on nine infractions and the Beavers totaling 12 minutes on six infractions
Jamestown will be in Romeoville, Ill., for the ACHA Chicago Classic November 20-23.
