MINOT, N.D. – The No. 10 University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team fell to third-ranked Minot State University 3-1 in a road contest on Friday evening at Maysa Arena.
The Jimmies struck first, taking a 1-0 lead at 17:37 of the first period when Tanner McCracken scored on a pass from Guerin Apperley.
Minot State tied the game 1-1 in the second period with a power-play goal from Sheldin Howard at 7:14.
The Beavers took the lead in the third period, with Matthew Yakubowski scoring the eventual game-winner at 8:18. MSU added an unassisted insurance goal from Jay Buchholz at 18:22 to seal the 3-1 victory.
Jimmie goaltender Brandon Weare made 30 saves on 33 shots in the loss. His counterpart, Blake Sittler, stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Beavers.
Minot State outshot Jamestown 33-27 for the game. The Jimmies were unable to convert on three power-play opportunities, while the Beavers went 1-for-5 with the man advantage. It was a physical game, with the two teams combining for 57 penalty minutes.
The series wraps up Saturday evening in Minot at 7 p.m.
