ACHA Division 1 Men's Hockey

Sixth-ranked Jimmies complete weekend sweep at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. - The University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep of McKendree University with a convincing 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. The Jimmies once again dominated the shot count, firing an incredible 60 shots on goal to McKendree's 21, and controlled the pace of play from start to finish.

After a scoreless opening few minutes, Jamestown broke the deadlock late in the first period with a power-play goal from Jacob Thomas at the 15:10 mark. Brad Fortin and Alek Erichuk picked up the assists on the goal, which gave the Jimmies a 1-0 lead.

The Jimmies extended their lead in the second period with two more goals. Kole Christensson found the back of the net at 13:26, with assists from Carson Brown and Sully Ross. Less than a minute later, Carter Johnson made it 3-0 with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by Erichuk and Griffin Bourassa.

McKendree finally got on the board in the third period, with Matias Alexandrov scoring at 11:16 to break up the shutout. However, that was all the offense the Bearcats could muster, as Jamestown's defense and goaltender Brandon Weare held strong for the remainder of the game.

Weare was sharp in net for the Jimmies, stopping 20 of the 21 shots he faced to earn his sixth win of the season. McKendree goaltender Dylan Dallaire was outstanding despite the loss, making an incredible 57 saves to keep the Bearcats in the game.

The Jimmies showcased a dominant offensive performance on Friday night, defeating the Bearcats 5-2 at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex. UJ outshot the Bearcats by a staggering 49-23 margin, controlling the puck for long stretches and capitalizing on their opportunities.

Jamestown jumped out to an early lead in the first period, scoring three times to take command of the game. Carter Johnson opened the scoring just 2:31 into the contest, with an assist from Raymond Warrack. Later in the period, Marcus Fritel and James Hooton added goals to extend the Jimmies' lead to 3-1 by the first intermission. Sawyer Lownsdale scored for McKendree.

The second period saw the Bearcats tighten up defensively, and they were able to cut the deficit to 3-2 on a power-play goal by Tanner Bettis. That would be as close as McKendree would get, as the Jimmies' defense, anchored by goalie Brandon Weare, shut the door the rest of the way.
