Jimmies cruise to double-digit win over Comets

MAYVILLE, N.D.— Silas Bennion scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures and the University of Jamestown men's basketball team finished off a sweep of its first conference weekend road trip with an 87-72 win over Mayville State University Saturday evening at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Jimmies connected on a blistering 61.1 percent of their shots in the first half (22 of 36) and were 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from three-point range to take a 52-28 lead at halftime.
  • Jimmy Llinas (11 points), Bennion (9), and Ayden Stainbrook (8) paced UJ offensively in the opening 20 minutes.
  • Stainbrook and Spencer Barr both shot 2-for-2 on three-pointers, while Bennion, Llinas, Owen Hektner, and Will Cordes also knocked down threes.
  • MSU got as close as 11 points after starting the second half on a 13-2 run, but Jamestown went on a 15-3 run of their own to make it a 23-point lead at 69-46.
  • Anthony Walters had 13 second-half points to lead the Jimmies, followed by Bennion with 10.
  • The Comets outshot UJ 56.3 percent to 44.8 percent in the final 20 minutes and had a 25-14 edge in points off turnovers, but UJ's reserves outscored Mayville State's by a 35-11 margin.
  • Joining Bennion in double figures were Walters with 15, and Llinas and Hektner both with 14.
  • Bennion passed out 9 assists to go along with 5 rebounds and a pair of steals.
  • Llinas had a team-high 8 boards, 3 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
