Jimmies Split Games on Day 2 of Tournament

The University of Jamestown men's volleyball team lost in five sets against St. Thomas University (Fla.) but won against Park University in Day 2 of the Pirate Invitational in Parkville, Mo Thursday evening at the Breckon Sports Center

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bobcats started off strong and went on a 5-0 scoring run to take a commanding 6-1 lead over the Jimmies 
  • The Jimmies answered back to get within 2 with an ace by Michal Niemiec coupled by two errors from the Bobcats to make the game 16-18 
  • The set was back and forth but a late 3-0 score run by the Bobcats gave them the first set 25-20
  • In the second the game was back and fourth but a late 4-0 scoring run by the Jimmies gave them the set 25-23
  • In the third set the pulled ahead with a 3-1 lead but a service ace from the Bobcats helped regain the lead 10-8 and not look back taking the set 25-21
  • The Jimmies came out in the fourth slow but were able to rally to on a 3-0 scoring run led by led kills from Tomasz Swiderski to take the lead 7-6 
  • The Bobcats answered back with 2-0 run to take the lead back but the Jimmies ended the set on a 7-0 scoring run 21-15 to eventually take the set 25-23
  • The fifth set was a back and forth battle trading leads but an ending 4-0 scoring run by the Bobcats proved to be enough to defeat the Jimmies

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The start of the first set was a back and forth battle but a 5-0 scoring run by the Jimmies led by two kills from Gaven Hackley and the other team erros delivered the first set to the Jimmies 25-21
  • The Jimmies and the Pirates were in a battle to start the second but a shirt 4-0 scoring run by the Pirates gave them the lead 11-7
  • A kill by Tomasz Swiderski brought the Jimmies within one 18-17 but a short 3-0 scoring run helped the Pirates take set two 25-21
  • In the third set a 3-0 run by the Pirates gave them a quick 5-2 lead over the Jimmies but a 5-0 scoring run by the Jimmies helped them comeback and regain the lead 7-5 
  • The Pirates answered back and tied the game  10-10 but another 4-0 scoring run by the Jimmies helped them regain the lead again 13-11
  • That last run was enough for the Jimmies to push past the Pirates and win the set and match 25-20
