The University of Jamestown ACHA D1 Men's Hockey team played at Iowa State on Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28. The Jimmies almost blanked the Cyclones, only allowing them one goal on the weekend while scoring 15 total themselves. Darius Makse had five goals on the weekend, leading Jimmie scoring.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
- Makse's first goal was scored on a power play 7:35 into the first period. His second goal came less than three minutes later, then Jordan Baranesky lit the lamp on another power play with five minutes left of play and concluded Jimmie scoring in the first.
- The hat trick goal for Makse came only 44 seconds into the second period. His fourth and final goal of the night came five minutes later. Other Jimmie goals in the second were scored by Brad Fortin and Keaton Cline.
- In the third period, the Jimmies extended their lead to nine with goals from Carter Johnson and Fortin.
- Makse, Baranesky, Fortin, Alek Erichuk, and Kaelan Shelton each had two assists on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
- Iowa State was able to hold off Jimmie scoring in the first period, only allowing them six shots on goal.
- Matthew Poole scored the first Jimmie goal one minute into the second period. Carter Johnson tagged on two, and Darius Makse scored his fifth of the weekend. Iowa State's lone goal by Caylon Sheffield came with one minute remaining in the second.
- Kaelan Shelton and Mario Decapite rounded out Jimmie scoring for the night.
- Fortin and Baranesky tagged on two more assists.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- The Jimmies outshot the Cyclones 74 to 25.
- The Jimmies were 2-11 on power plays for the weekend.
- Brandon Weare had 24 total saves.
FOR THE CYCLONES
- The Cyclones were 0-6 on power plays for the weekend.
- Harrison Moen had 27 total saves.
