TUCSON, Ariz.-- The University of Jamestown softball team started off with a pair of wins Monday at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Jimmies defeated Tabor (Kan.) 2-0 and Park-Gilbert (Ariz.) 2-1 to improve to 10-2 this season.
GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Hope Ransome scattered two hits over seven innings, striking out four in a shutout win.
• Kayla Quintanilla and Ally Battistoni both had two hits, while Battistoni and Gentrey Turin each had an RBI.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Abby Blair took a shutout into the bottom of the seventh and finished with a complete-game victory. Blair struck out seven and allowed an unearned run on five hits.
• The Jimmies came through with a two-out run in the top of the first. After Kayla Quintanilla and Gracie Fisher each walked, Ally Battistoni singled to right to score Quintanilla to make it 1-0.
• Jamestown maintained a 1-0 lead until the top of the sixth. Kylie Yanzuk's ground out scored Sonya Rodgers from third with one out, and UJ led 2-0.
• A one-out double by Park in the bottom of the seventh made it a one-run game, and the Pirates had the tying run at third. Blair struck out the final two batters to end the threat.
• Fisher, Battistoni, Maddie Spaeth, and Hope Ransome accounted for the Jimmies' hits.

• Jamestown plays two more games in Tucson on Tuesday, taking on Mayville State (N.D.) at 10:00 a.m. and St. Francis (Ill.) at 12 p.m.
