SIOUX CITY, Iowa-- The University of Jamestown softball team swept a pair of games against Briar Cliff University Thursday afternoon, winning the GPAC conference opener by scores of 13-1 in five innings and 8-5 at Bishop Mueller Complex.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Chargers scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead.
- Jamestown used a two-run double by Maddie Spaeth and a two-run home run by Abby Blair in the top of the fourth to go ahead 4-1.
- The floodgates opened in the top of the fifth. Kayla Quintanilla and Mackenzie Lefebvre hit back-to-back homers to start the inning, then consecutive singles by Spaeth and Kylie Yanzuk set the table for Blair. Blair doubled home Spaeth, Yanzuk advanced to third, and UJ was ahead 7-1.
- Gentrey Turin singled up the middle as Blair and Yanzuk scored. A double by Trinity Gregg put runners at second and third, then back-to-back doubles by Samarah Martinez and Quintanilla brought in three more runs.
- A sacrifice fly by Ally Battistoni accounted for the final Jamestown run of the inning, which saw the Jimmies cross the plate nine times with nine hits, six of which went for extra bases.
- Seven batters had two-hit games for UJ while five players drove in at least two runs.
- Hope Ransome (6-1) went all five innings in the circle, giving up six hits and one run while striking out five.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Jimmies picked up where they left off in game one, striking first for a 2-0 lead thanks to RBI singles by Samarah Martinez and Mackenzie Lefebvre.
- Briar Cliff put together a three-run inning in the bottom half, then added another run in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead.
- The fourth inning was again key for Jamestown, as they strung together four hits and a pair of Charger errors to add four runs to the scoreboard. Trinity Gregg and Ally Battistoni drove in runs with singles and Hope Ransome reached on an error that allowed two more runs.
- Martinez and Kayla Quintanilla provided key two-out singles in the top of the fifth, each bringing in a run to extend Jamestown's lead to 8-4.
- Briar Cliff added a run in the bottom of the fifth but got no closer as the game ended 8-5.
- The Jimmies had 12 hits as a team, with Gregg going 3-for-4 and Martinez, Abby Blair, and Camryn Schwan had two hits each.
- Blair (6-3) pitched a complete game, with just two of the five runs she allowed earned. She gave up nine hits and walked two.
