MELBOURNE, Fla. – The University of Jamestown softball team delivered a statement performance on the second day of the Space Coast Spring Games, sweeping a Monday doubleheader with a pair of high-scoring victories. The Jimmies opened the morning with a clinical 11-1 run-rule win over Southern New Hampshire University. The momentum carried into the afternoon as Jamestown overcame an early deficit against Roosevelt University, using a massive six-run fifth inning to secure an 11-7 victory.
Game 1: Jamestown 11, Southern New Hampshire 1 The Jimmies left no doubt in their Monday morning opener at the Space Coast Spring Games, using a relentless offensive barrage to secure an 11-1 run-rule victory over Southern New Hampshire University in five innings.
The Jimmies wasted no time setting the tone, sending 11 batters to the plate in a massive seven-run first inning. After Trinity Gregg ignited the rally with a leadoff single, Maddie Spaeth put Jamestown on the board with an RBI knock. The highlight of the frame came from Jorja Hainsworth, who cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple to push the lead to 5-0. RBI efforts from Lauren Weigel and Gregg capped the early explosion.
Jamestown effectively ended the contest in the second inning, plating four more runs. Hainsworth provided the exclamation point for her career day, launching a three-run home run to left field to push the cushion to 11-0. Hainsworth finished the abbreviated contest a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBIs.
While the bats provided the fireworks, Aubrey Quern was clinical in the circle. Quern earned her third win of the season, surrendering just one run on three hits while striking out two over four steady innings. Maddie Hairgrove threw a perfect fifth inning to seal the victory.
Game 2: Jamestown 11, Roosevelt 7
The second game of the day the Jimmies capitalized on a massive six-run fifth inning to secure an 11-7 victory over Roosevelt University on Monday afternoon. The win capped off a productive day for the Jimmies at the Space Coast Spring Games.
The contest remained tight through the first four frames with Jamestown holding a 3-2 lead heading into the fifth. Jamestown's offense then erupted, sending ten batters to the plate scoring six runs. The Jimmies drew three walks and utilized a hit-by-pitch to keep the pressure on the Lakers' defense. Key RBI contributions from Lauren Weigel, Tori Olson, and Trinity Gregg turned the deficit into a commanding 9-2 lead.
The Jimmies added two more insurance runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Kate Geiszler RBI triple that scored Maddie Spaeth. Roosevelt mounted a late-inning rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the deficit proved too large to overcome.
Hope Ransome earned the win for Jamestown, pitching four solid innings and striking out four. Aubrey Quern provided three innings of relief to earn the save, adding four more strikeouts to the Jimmies' defensive effort. Spaeth led the offensive charge, finishing the day 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
