Jimmies take three of final four games in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The University of Jamestown softball team won three of its final five games in Arizona, finishing with a 6-3 record overall at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Jimmies' record now stands at 14-5 heading into GPAC play.

Madonna 1, Jamestown 0
• A single run with two out in the bottom of the seventh was the difference as Madonna (Mich.) defeated the Jimmies on Wednesday.
• UJ was held to four hits in the game, with Kayla Quintanilla, Hope Ransome, Ally Battistoni, and Gentrey Turin each collecting a single.
Abby Blair gave up an unearned run on four hits over 6 2/3 innings in the circle.

Jamestown 5, Benedictine Mesa 4
• The Jimmies led 4-1 after two innings and 5-1 going into the fifth before holding off Benedictine Mesa's comeback attempt.
Abby Blair doubled and Mackenzie Lefebvre singled to drive in runs, while Ally Battistoni and Trinity Gregg both reached on errors to score another pair of runs as UJ went up 4-1 in the second.
• Lefebvre homered leading off the bottom of the fourth to give the Jimmies a 5-0 advantage.
• Benedictine Mesa scored a single run in each of the final three innings, and had the tying run at second base with two outs before Hope Ransome recorded the final out.
• Ransome (5-1) pitched five innings in relief, giving up three runs on six hits.
• Jamestown had 10 hits as a team, with Blair, Lefebvre, Samarah Martinez, and Amanda Burch all with two hits each.

Jamestown 8, Mount Mary 0
Bristol Foytik pitched a one-hit shutout as the Jimmies took care of Division III Mount Mary in five innings.
• Five Jimmies—Samarah Martinez, Amanda Burch, Gracie Fisher, Camryn Schwab, and Paige Eden—had two hits each.
• The score was 0-0 as UJ came to bat in the third, but 10 hits and seven runs later Jamestown had broken the game open.
• Eden had a two-run single, Fisher drove in another run with a single of her own, and Burch stole home as part of the seven-run inning.
• Eden and Skylar Hinricher hit back-to-back singles to start the third, and Martinez followed with a third straight base hit, scoring Eden. The ball was misplayed in the outfield, and both Hinricher and Martinez came home to make it 3-0 for the Jimmies.
Kylie Yanzuk's pinch-hit single scored Schwab in the fifth as the lead grew to 8-0.
• Foytik faced just three batters over the minimum as she improved to 3-1 this season.

Jamestown vs. Dickinson State; Jamestown vs. Waldorf; Jamestown vs. Graceland
• Thursday's second game against Dickinson State as well as Friday's games against Waldorf and Graceland were canceled due to rain.

Jamestown 7, Viterbo 5
• UJ pushed home single runs in the first and third innings, two in the second, and three more in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead against the V-Hawks.
Mackenzie Lefebvre was 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to pace the Jimmies' offense.
Camryn Schwab added two hits and Trinity Gregg drove in two, scored two more, and reached base in three of her four plate appearances.
Sunny Halsey (1-0) earned her first win this season, working four innings and striking out three.

Embry-Riddle 4, Jamestown 0
• The Jimmies were held to three scratch singles in their final game against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.)
• Vanessa Brink struck out 14 batters for Embry-Riddle, with Ally Battistoni the only Jamestown player to put the ball in play each time up.

UP NEXT
• Jamestown is in Sioux City, Iowa, on March 20 to take on Briar Cliff University in the GPAC opener. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
