JAMESTOWN, N.D.-- The University of Jamestown women's hockey team opened the 2024-25 season at home Friday afternoon against Midland (Neb.) University, taking a 2-1 lead late into the third period. The Warriors scored the game's final two goals to come away with a 3-2 victory at John L. Wilson Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Neither team scored in the first period, although the Jimmies had two power play opportunities that came just 48 seconds apart.
• Molly McMurrich scored her first of the season for Midland at 2:32 of the second to make it 1-0, but the Warriors' lead didn't last long.
• Kiran Vugteveen tied the game at 4:31 on assists from Sam Beaulac and Gaby Schroder, and Jimmie goaltender Lilah Drew made 20 saves in the period to keep the game even heading into the third.
• Beaulac and Rylee Gee set up Mackenzie Couling for the go-ahead goal at 12:10 of the third period, and like the Warriors' first-period lead, UJ's was short-lived.
• Darbi Poole drew Midland level three minutes after Couling's goal and the game headed to overtime.
• Midland needed only 20 seconds to find the game-winner. The Warriors controlled the overtime opening faceoff and Callie Maguire netted her sixth of the season to send her team to victory.

FOR THE JIMMIES

• Drew stopped 38 shots in the loss.
• Jamestown was 0-for-2 on the power play but successfully killed off both Midland power play chances.
